The new millennium has ushered in so many new technologies. The fast turn- over of technology necessitates that people have to keep up to be able to function in this high-tech society. People have no choice but to accept them. Times are changing and we just have to go with the flow. Online shopping and global business transactions is a good example wherein people or consumers have to learn how to make purchases and payments online. The convenience afforded by this new system has its advantages. But it cannot be denied, that payment methods introduced by this system is not without flaw or shortcomings. Illegal practices like the electronic wire scam, identity theft, credit card fraud, and moneygram scam are offshoots of these flaws. This is the price that has to be paid for embracing these new trends in technology. But should we, the consumers, really have to pay such a price? No we do not. What is required is vigilance when making transactions on line. Being aware of these illegal practices and the indicators leading to fraudulent transactions will help us avoid becoming victims of these scams.
